Silencing my PC

I've just ordered an EVGA "Silent" 640mb 8800GTS, and I'm looking at silencing the rest of my PC, the problem being that I'm now skint :rolleyes:

So, if possible I need to buy 2 case fans (120mm) and 1 120mm fan for my Tuniq Tower. Also, would I need a fan controller?

The main problem is does anyone know how quiet the Hiper Type-R 530W is? Because if it's too loud there isnt much point silencing the rest of my case is there.

Looking to keep this as cheap as possible, can't really see myself spending >£10 on a fan unless really neccessary.

Thanks in advance for help / suggestions

It all depends on the rpm of the fan, faster it is louder it gets, these are an average on speed from 120mm fans.

1600rpm = 28.0 dB(A)
1200rpm = 20.1 dB(A)
0800rpm = 08.7 dB(A)

as you can see 800 rpm fans are really quiet so if you are after a quiet pc i would go for that, depending on the components also it depends on what and how many objects you want to keep cool and the air flow of the case.

i would recommend a 1200rpm fan while keeping a good air flow.

the best fan on the market at the moment i think is.

Noctua NF-S12 1200 RPM 120mm

which creates less than 16 dB(A) of audiability.

do you really need a fan controller right now?

its not a necessity, its best to get some good quality fans that will make your pc the quieteist which is what you wanted isnt it, without compromising performance.

Noctua might be quietest but they apparently don't move much air. Papst are supposed to be good ones and cheaper. I'm just going on what I've read from others before though.

Yate Loon is all you need to know, £5 each, quiet and can be run down to <5v on a controller. They come in black, orange, white/black, clear with blue LEDs and blue with blue leds too so something to match most cases :)

Apart from those ratings are rubbish, closer to the truth would probably be

800 RPM - 16-22db depending on motor noise
1000 RPM 20-25db
1200 RPM 27-32db
1600 RPM 30+

I know you used the Scythe ratings, but they aren't accurate.

How? One came with the case and the other was just a cheap one. Don't think they have any wires with them.

Do they have a internal fusion generator then? Of course they have wires.
Google search for 7v molex mod, I've done that to all the fans in the htpc. Much much quieter.

i took those statistics from quietpc chart for noctua's, i dont see a lot of accuracy behind them but it seems right.

Just get yourself 2x Xilence fans + fanmate. You can adjust to whatever airflow to noise level you want.

I don't think the Hyper PSU's are that quiet. Get yourself a Tagan or Corsair PSU.

Seconded, Corsair are the Bee's Knee's of powersupplys at the moment.

I got a load of sharkoon silent eagles (1000rpm variety) as they offer fairly decent airflow and are very quiet at standard volts.

scythe fans are near inaudible i use 1600rpm they shift some air and are quitest ive had yet

Yate loons or Silent Eagle 2000s on a controller would be better choices as they are quieter at the same RPM.

Depends on the person, I wouldn't call my 1000rpm Nexus fans completely silent and I found the 1600rpm Scythes to be noisy (due to the speed and a slight motor noise)
