friend gave me his old pc case so i decided to put my file server in it and try and quieten the thing down so i could sleep. I found the things making the most noise in my old case were the PSU and crappy AMD fan.

First thing fixed was the psu in the new case was a silent one so that was fixed without any effort

After bodging the mobo into place i took the old amd heatsink and fan off and threw it as far as i could!

horrible thing....

now my lovely intel heatsink that came with my Q6600 was sitting in the box and it looked soo much better than that amd thing! it even has a big copper bit in the middle! i thought.. hey if it can cool a q6600 it must be able to cool my little AMD!

and considering its an intel heatsink i got it on easy enough!!

i now cant hear it at all as the intel cooler is so good the fan must be at very low speeds :)

Im going to try and bunjie the hard drives tomorrow as thats the only thing that makes a bit of noise when at high speeds... hopefully it will be very silent if i manage to do it :D
