Aright lads, just looking for suggestions.

Currently have a q9550 with stock fan, i also think the hard-drives are a tad noisey and tad.

It's currently not overclocked, so may attempt that at some point.
case is cooler master stacker 832.

Any suggestions?

Sorry had a total blank on what type of hard-drives they are.

If you plan on overclocking you are going to need a decent aftermarket cooler.

Something like a TRUE, Noctua, or Megahalems with a nice quiet fan like the Noctua or Akasa Apache, this will allow you to get a good o/c on your 9550.

That chip should be able to do 3.8 to 4GHz quite easily I would have thought.

Regarding your HDD's, I really don't know which spindle drives are the quietest out there, HDD noise doesn't really bother me tbh, however if you want a fast/silent drive for your OS you should consider buying an SSD.

bungee mod the HHD (about £2 in sowing elastic)
next step up is a HHD enclosure (£20-60)
next step is SSD (£100)

If you are using more that 4 fans total (inc psu) bungee mod is usually enought

Another vote for bungee mod! Ran down to B&Q some time last year, I got 2m of it just in case was about £2.50 i think, intertwined it all with not much planned precision, the 2 HD's I have are in RAID0 so with synchronised access it reverberated throughout the case. The bungee cord is kinda tight so it seems like theres no flex with the HD's, but its pretty much silent now :D

Best mod I have ever done!

Seen this done on another forum a while ago, I think I might try it out at some point because these 36GB Raptors are noisy!

I was amazed the difference suspending my Hard Drives made to the noise of the system, I can hear them only now if I open my case and bung my head in. Had a crappy metal Hard Drive caddy transferring vibes all through the case before.
