In the age of 7600GT and 7800GT there were silent options for cards.

Are they now so powerful and hot that they cannot be passively cooled.

I really can't be bothered "tinkering" with my GFX card and would like a passively cooled 8800GT retail.

Do they exist? I see lots on sale that are slightly overclocked but no silent ones. Gap in the market perhaps?
 
You can get some passive 8600GTS but they are two slot coolers.
So far the market seems to be complaining if a two slot solution is used to cool, as a lot of people want single slot graphics cards.

The original single slot cooler seemed to be not upto the job on the 8800GT so I guess a passive solution would be really large.
 
Looks like you're sorted then, I'm dead impressed with mine, only had one go at clocking it and already pushed it pretty far (700/1750/2000).
