Has anyone played this?

Was in woolies yesterday and purchased this seeming though it was 50% off, looks quite interesting.

Does anyone play this? Are there any mods or anything out for it?

Cheers

Edit: I mean 3!

Silent Hunter 4 (Wolves of the Pacific) has been out for a good while and would probably be a better bet in terms of graphics etc, it's available online for ~£12.

It's a simulation with some shooting planes / blowing up ships involved, and you can choose what level of complexity / realism you want, like most sims you probably get as much out of learning how to operate the systems as you do completing the missions. I guess what I'm saying is it's not an outright action game, not something you can dive straight into (no pun intended).

I was playing it a bit but then got into X3 Terran Conflict which is IMHO a better sim type game and costs ~£2 more.

For more info on the Silent Hunter series and the mods available check out http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/index.php.

Actually, although SH4 has great graphics, it has a few bugs too, SH3 however has as good graphics? and loads of mods available, well worth checking out, and a far cry from SH2.

Well I have already bought it, currently at work and bored so thought id start up a thread!

I think it could be 3 that I got!

Cheers

^^ plenty of mods to be playing with then!

Is it quite a hard game to get into? The gfx look pretty impressive!

I preferred SH3 to 4, there's a massive mod called Grey Wolves which I never got round to trying but is probably worth checking out. As above, Subsim is the place to be.

You can play it as almost a pure action game with unlimited fuel and ammo etc. or turn up the realism all the way for a hardcore sim experience (red lights and no showering optional :p)

The difficulty is dependant on what you want, it can be an intense simulation, or a fairly easy arcade game, just change the realism settings to play around, i always played for fun so had the realism set very low, that way you can spend hours instead of days on a patrol and get the same tonnage sunk ;)

Is Silent Hunter 2 the one with the modern day submarines as opposed to the world war 2 era?

edit - ignore the above. Just been on the website. I was thinking of 668i hunter killer or something I think.

I love SH3, get the gray wolves mod from http://subsim.com . Such a great mod, well... more of a free expansion I suppose.

Also, when your getting depth charged and hunted, try not to use the external camera. Makes it much more fun listening to the depth charges exploding around you. Not knowing if they are going to hit you or miss.

I tried SH4 when it came out but it wasnt very good compared to SH3+Mods. Last thing I heard was that the Graywolves team was moving over to start work on a Sh4 mod.

re

sh 1 and 2 both suck..sh3 had a major overhaul in the graphics department...its like playing a different game compared to 1 and 2...i never had so much fun with sh3 couple of years ago since Silent Service....about 15 years ago..sh4 does not have as many mods as sh3 but i think its better than sh3 as it goes further out into the pacific and you also play from an american viewpoint instead of a german one..not that the german one is not any good...i liked both to be honest...get sh4 if you are to buy only one of these....

The GWX team released the final version 3.0 of their mod this morning (more a total game re-write to be honest!), which has coincided nicely with me reinstalling SH3 on the PC, and getting down to some more patrolling.

Great sim. :)
