Silent Hunter 4

what about SP wolfpacks? leading allied subs and attacking enemy subs?

been having a look at features of SH4 and i dont see SP wolfpacks hrmm maybe im looking in the wrong places...

And tbh i dont see a lot of extra features in SH4 that were NOT modded into SH3 by the community base after release. Hrmmm

edit:

found this from http://www.subsim.com/sh4/demo_sh4.php :(

The only omission remains other submarines, SH4 won't have either AI US subs or Japanese subs

:(

but multiplayer adverserial or co-op sub battles is still ON :D

Friday is it, I got an email yesterday saying they had shipped. I ordered the metal box one.

Hope it's a good game. Still enjoying SH3, oh and SH2.

I think i'll give this one a miss and wait for the next one. IMO its an upgrade to SH3 really, same old engine being used and no sub Vs sub, which is what most ppl were looking forwards to the most, plus its set in WWII era. I was hoping for some thing more modern.

:(

didnt know about this either tho i always found sh2 a lot easier to play than the 3rd one i had problems aiming my torpedos correctly in 3 but can aim em perfect in 2 :)

I still remember how "amazing" the water looked in SH1, surfacing just off Japan to watch the sun rise, steaming across the sea at sunset, coming across those stupid Sampans instead of something cool, etc.....ahhhh, good times.

For me it was the absurd destroyer accuracy in SH2, after hours of crazy hide and seek I popped my periscope up and there were 6 destroyers circling around. That was the Norway Convoy mission. Fantastic.

Well, I'll definitely be checking this out when I get my new rig in three weeks. The reason it's based on WWII is that there is still a huge amount of interest in games themed from that period and if you prefer modern, there are more than enough titles out there to satisfy. Leave us WWII lovers to our fun.

With regards to sub v sub, I don't believe that ever happened in WWII, there just wasn't the technology available to go chasing each other around the ocean depths. The U-Boats almost brought Britain to her knees before the enigma machine was decoded and Britain attained the upper hand. I love the idea of multi-player Wolf Packs. :D

Did you try doubling back on yourself? I know what you mean but "silent running" and this cheap tactic can work sometimes.

hi

mines been shiped cant wait ,just hope it works fine on vista.

one thing this is my first ever copy of the SH series ,does anyone know where i can find the best site to get guides, info on how to get the hang of it?

as ive got a feeling it looks quite a complicated game too play?

cheers :)

If it's anything like Silent Hunter 3 then it should have tutorials for the basics, a bit tedious but they do help when you are playing the game proper. I've never played it in 100% realism mode, I keep SH3 at 67%, one day I'll try it.

There's a site dedicated to submarine simulations at:

I'm much better at getting out of the way now, that particular episode just made me laugh, a tight circle of destroyers around my periscope. Now I use depth and very frequent direction changes to throw them off.

And I like to play chicken with them too sometimes.

Stop press: SH4 has just arrived at the door, it includes a SH4 Mouse Mat!!! Will post tonight with a review.

i could be wrong but this happened in sh3 occasionally. (but it was a bug?) In other words, destroyers etc would be right on your position even when you go silent and deep. My memory is hazy though...might have been fixed by community/official patch.

What i dont understand is that for me the graphics in sh3 were absolutely gorgeous. When a developer spends most of the time bigging up the graphics then doesnt that warn you that not much else has changed?

tbh though i might pick it up anyway because the community mods made the difference in sh3. I cling onto a small slither of hope that enemy subs will be able to be modded in.

I've just ordered it, remember enjoying SH3 for a few weeks last year and then I left it when Oblivion came out, might have a short refresher this week. An Aces of the Deep style campaign with better graphics is just fine by me :).

I do have the Oblivion expansion ordered too, we'll see if the same thing happens again!
