Silent hunter 5

I would really like to try it but I know I don't have the time to play this sort of game, you can walk about the whole sub commanding your crew and the sea is stunning from what I've seen

Yeah I'm a fan of the series, but sadly the last couple have been horrible buggy messes at release. Just wondered if anyone has tried 5 yet to see what kind of release state its in. Want to play but not really up to spending time wading through bugs and would prefer to wait til they are corrected if thats the case.

haven't played it but the fact it lacked a compass and "depth under the keel! seemed to be big complaints from people.

The devs basically responded to peoples complaints with "I'm not happy with the release, It's up to modders to make the changes now"

lot of things in SH5 that detract from the simulation element according to what ive read. i decided rather than take a chance on it being decent and ubisoft servers being up .... i just bought the SH4 gold pack. Should be good :D

Damn, sounds from those reviews like SH5 is in a similarly buggy mess of a state as the last few have been at release. Guess I will hold off for now and see how its doing down the road.

It's a buggy mess right now. The DRM needs no further comments from me (unable to play singleplayer etc as UBI servers are bombarded again). If you can be bothered to tweak and get the relevant mods (there are a ton already) it really helps a bucket load. The graphics and immersion blow me away if I am honest, I will quite happily pan around the camera and just watch the game and go 'oooh' and 'ahhhh'. It's really pretty.

Once it is patched up and some of the super mods come out I think it will be the daddy. If you don't mind some patching and tweaking it is passable now. But you really need the mods to get the best out of it. Few recommended mods are the new UI, old controls and dials, Capt Helms effects mod (pretty gfx), sound mod, depth under keel cfg line etc. Subsim forums are a great place to visit for the mods, and more info on how to get this messy game sorted out.

D3D overider helps with the flaky mouse movement I get (just use triple buffernig option and not vsync).

Looks fine to me...I can't see any bugs :D

have been thinking about buying this but I think that I will wait untill they actually iron the bugs out...

on a side note, I have noticed that I have been posting less and less the higher my post count gets... its not good!

How does this compare to Silent Hunter 4? I used to play the first one and I'm looking to get back into the series but what I've heard about number 5 so far has really put me off.

It's pretty disgraceful they still release games with such bugs. Who's going to pay out for a game that has so many it detracts from the experience.

I've never played or even really heard about the series before, but after watching a few vids on the tube im inclined to try it out.

Is it one of those ridiculously difficult to get into/get good at games?

Not really, just need to learn how the enemy ships react to your sub and second guess what they are going to do, downing a merchant is fairly easy, unless your on the surface and they are armed merchants.

Theres no way im gonna buy SH5 till they sort out the DRM.
