First of its my first custom build because i got feed up of being charge extra to make compromises on ***** i didn't want (yes I own a dell haven't we all made mistakes).
Basically its a gaming/media centre setup for the aul bedroom so there's no need for it to be ninja quite just pretty quite.

Core 2 Duo E6300
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP
XFX GeForce 7950GT 570M 512MB
Antec P180
Bundle- OCZ 450W Powersupply & OCZ 2GB Kit DDR2 PC2-6400
NEC DVD±recorder IDE Black OEM DVD+R/+RW/DVD-R/-RW
Zalman 7700-AlCu
Seagate Barracuda - 320 Gb
XP Media Center 2005
Power extension Cable ATX 24 pin male - female 30cm

Oh and the bundle is basically on offer so thats set in stone at the moment.
Any advice would be welcome so pass judgment on me...... now

1. Edit out the competitors OcUK Forums FAQ

2. NEC DVD drives are quite noisy. I'd get a Pioneer instead.

3. Dunno how good OCZ PSUs are. Never skimp on the PSU tho. Seasonic make excellent PSUs.

4. GSkill and Geil RAM seems to be the preferred choice of RAM for these CPUs, although I don't know wether there's actually any difference bewteen them and what youv'e specced.

5. Personally Id prefer a Scythe Ninja or Tuniq Tower heatsink, but again that's really just personal preference.

6. Everything else looks good! Happy overclocking!

OCZ psus are as good as Seasonic really.
But just recently spcr tested some Corsair psus and not only are they made by Seasonic, they are also very slightly quieter. You won't notice the difference unless you are a serious silence enthusaist, so i recommend getting either a Corsair or Seasonic.

I don't know what the cooler is on that xfx 7950gt, but if its the stock one which i suspect it is it will be noisy. How about the Galaxy 7950gt with zalman cooler fitted?
This gives you a good aftermarket type cooler without voiding your warranty.

I don't think that zalman cpu cooler is as good as some, why not get a scythe ninja as mentioned or one of the better zalmans? I wouldn't bother with the tuniq myself unless you want to replace the fan as i don't think the supplied fan is anything special in terms of noise. It would probably work quite well if replaced with a nexus though.

Actually the xfx 7950 gt is 100% passively cooled
I think the ninja scares me a little to much, its so tall I can't help thinking I would just break something with it.

Don't worry about the ninja, the majority of ocukers have either a ninja or tuniq which is even heavier, no problems due to weight from any of them.
The ninja has most weight at the bottom anyway to the cantilever effect is minimised.

Personally i would get the galaxy over the xfx because its probably cheaper and i bet that zalman cooler on 5v would cooler better and still be silent. Plus xfx customer service is useless.

thanks for the advice on the ninja i was thinking about it but it scared the bejebus outta me but but since it so popular i ordered one from ocuk last night because its the only place i could get one from Ireland so cheers for that.
BTW i found a pic of one installed in a p180 and it looks perfect, ahhh the excitement of ordering over the top tech parts it feels like christmas eve.

Seagate Barracuda - 320 Gb

why not a Samsung SpinPoint P SP2514N 250GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM
Samsung make goood quality drives are very quiet also. And it will save you £4 over the seagate :)
Its also 2.1ms faster than the seagate (not that you will notice)

Personally i never compromise performance for silence. If the seagate is too loud its easy to buy a nexus drive a way and pop it in that.

i got a p180 with 2 raptors in it and i can hardly hear em. the only i can really hear from my p180 are the fans. how much you can hear em depends on what speed you have em at :)

I dont know how quite XFX cards are as I have never had one lol... but I highly recommend HIS ATI graphics card as the HIS IceQ cooler is very quite and keeps the card nice'n'cool...

ATI HIS X1900XT/X1950XT versions should be awesome!
