As my main computer is in my room and next to my bed i very rarely leave it on overnight to download. However i was thinking about making it silent.

Wow it works out expensive

Is there cheaper alternatives?

I'd look for 2nd watercooling equipment if i had that sort of money to play with.

Have a look on that well known auction site.

What is your current case, CPU cooler, case fans, PSU, etc?

Aspire X-Cruiser Black ATX Windowed Gaming Case - standard fans
Standard Intel Duo CPU cooler
Hiper 480W Type-R Black PSU

i might have that sort of money to play with but dont mean i want to spend it.

I'd try and work out what is causing the most noise in your case before splashing out on new hardware, etc.

If you think it's the CPU cooler then take a look at the Noctua NH-U12P or Thermalright Ultra 120. The Noctua comes with a very quiet/silent fan and performs very well. The Thermalright does not come with a fan so you can choose which quiet/silent fan to fit onto it yourself.
Also consider replacing your case fans if they are making a lot of noise. Scythe, Noctua and Yate Loon make some very quiet fans. It might be worth getting a fan controller so you can control the noise/amount of air flow depending on your needs.

From looking at reviews the Hiper 480W Type-R PSU is meant to be pretty quiet, so I would leave it for now and concentrate on your CPU cooler and case fans.

It was just a suggestion, i'm sorry for wasting my time.

I wouldn't bother with an expensive CPU cooler, go for something like a Akasa AK-965 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) (£12.91).

Personally that case looks awful to me, but its down to personal preference. Are you sure your PSU is making lots of noise, and not mistaking it by the CPU Cooler or case fans?

In the Nzxt silent range the alpha is meant to be quieter than the hush according to the reviews ive read, i know the few alphas ive used have been practically silent even when fully loaded.

Have a look at you mainboard, most have some form of fan control system.

I use a small system for downloads we access etc. It's near silent with the stock cooler and case fans as they ramp down to a slow speed dependant of temps. You can usually set this in the BIOS.

Otherwise you could get a fan controller and slow them down before you sleep.

From personal experience though... what is silent mid afternoon can seem quite loud at 3am.
