I have a HTPC and the case is a TrendSonic with a accompanied PSU.

I want to take the PSU out as it is very noisy and will no doubt be cheap and tacky.

I want to get the most silent PSU I Can for no more then £50

It will be running the following kit

Q6600 (Stock)
4 gig Cheap Samsung Ram (to be replaced with dual channel soon)
4670 512mb Graphics card
1 x LightScibe DVD Rom
1 x 500gb sata 2 hard drive
1, cheap TV tuner card

Also some USB bits like web cam and wireless mouse & Keyboard

I will upgrade the ram at some point for some decent Dual channel stuff and also tweak the CPU as i know they clock well.

What would you guys recommend as I want it to be as silent as I can get it as in living room?

Thanks for quick reply, the linked PSU looks good just concerned about the 400W but I know this will be true 400W not like some cheap PSU`s that say 5/600 wats but give out 300.

What would your thoughts be on the

OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 Power Supply

£10 difference in price but better for later hardware updates.

Could anyone confirm that it should be a stright forward swop over from the current PSU at the front of the media centre case?

It uses cheaper parts, therefore can't rated with the S12 series.

It a decent budget PSU, but labeling it Seasonic branded is misleading tbf.

And it is made by Seasonic, but not speced by them, just like some of the Corsair, PCP&C Silencer, some Antec.

Silent power supply + quad core + 4670 is asking a hell of a lot at 50 quid.
There are heatpipe based zalman psu's out there which are probably what you want, but for over budget. At 50 quid, you can get a decent 500W ish psu, but you can't get a properly silent one.
For up to 150W, there are pico psu's which are actually silent. But they won't run your rig.

What is the noise level like on this PSU and would it be ok to run my above speck with some small upgrades going forward?

Noise is the main point as want it as silant as poss?

Well adding for a few fans I estimate peak load would be 185w (220w from the wall).

I put on in my mums PC, with it using 150w from the wall I can't hear it, have to look at the power light to see if it's on.
That's in a 11 year old small mid ATX case.

I can't say if it will get any louder as I can't get that PC to use any more power.

Here's a review of the 430w version.

If the 380w version is the same, you would hit a peak of 24 dBA@1m
And to tbf, other than benchmarks it's quite hard to run everying at peak.

Thanks for advice people,

I have a budget of £100 include P&P

This is for a upgrade on 2400 pro to a 4600 range or better and also a new
PSU.

I had a 2 year old Packard Bell at side of TV for a couple of months and that had manufacturers PSU and was very silent compared to the one in my media centre.

I know I can not expect the world for this budget but I dare say that any of the suggestions above would be a lot better then the current PSU.

I am flexible in what area I spend my £100 so I am open to suggestions. Gaming not a massive thing for me but the HDMI output is.

bequite! are good PSU's but i think it is out of your price range mate just buy a budget one and cope with the noise until you can afford a really good silent one :)
