Silent PSU Advice

There are a few decent passive PSUs on the market, but they do require decent case airflow. Something to consider though...
I have decent air flow in my case (120mm Noctua intake and 2 80mm Hiper exhaust fans as well as the CPU fan pushing air towards the Hipers- all on a fan controller) but i dont think id go for a passive PSU

After much review reading and thinking the final PSUs i am considering are

the Corsair HX620
and
the Enermax Modu82+ 625W

comparing the two

Feature - Corsair HX620 vs Enermax Modu82+ 625W
Warranty : 5 years vs 3 years
PCI-E : 2 vs 4
SATA : 8 vs 11
Molex : 10 vs 5
Price: =
3.3V : = @ 24A
5V : 30A vs 24A
12V1 : 18A vs 25A
12V2 : 18A vs 25A
12V3 : 18A vs 25A
-12V : 0.8A vs 0.6A
5Vsb : = @ 3A
Max 3.3V & 5V : 170W vs 140W
Max 12V : 600W vs 600W (50A)
Max -12V : 9.6W vs 7.2W
Max 5Vsb : = @ 15W

The HX620 wins in 6 categories
The Modu82+ wins in 3 categories (counting the 12V current ratings as one category)
They draw in 5 categories

Cant really get reliable stats on noise but the HX620 is meant to be quiet/silent and the Modu82+ is meant to be quieter than the HX620

im still really torn though

If I can make this a little easier - the HX620 actually comes with 4 PCIe power cables, they are just neatly on 2 rails, so two cables become 4 plugs if you understand me.

I think thr SATA vs. Molex argument is also a bit moot as you just change the cables for SATA ones.

The HX620 is a brilliant PSU and you'll have no trouble with it and should you decide to sell it, it'll sell in minutes on Member's Market because it is the classic mid-high end PSU.

Sorry you did lose me, do you mean they both have 4 PCI-E connectors? As the Corsair site says two for the HX620 (as linked above)

In places where it matters, they can both deliver 500W of power of 50A on the 12V line

At the moment i currently use, one molex, one PCI-E 6 pin and 2 SATA connectors (as well as the standard ATX 24 pin and CPU 4 pin)
At the extreme i would only use maybe 3 molexes, 4 SATA connectors and 2/4 PCI-E connectors (as well as the standard ATX 24 pin and CPU 4 pin)

After some more reading reviews its between the Enermax Modu82+ 625W and the 650 W Be Quiet Dark Power Pro

As anyone got one of these and they can tell me if its worth the extra money for the Be Quiet and how quiet it is?

Cheers

I have ordered the Enermax Modu82+ 625W, it should be arriving on Tuesday as i dont think i ordered intime to beat the Bank Holiday

Will do a mini-review when it arrives and is up and running

Cheers for the help though guys :)

This seems a suitable place to ask, does anyone know if that Enermax Modu82+ 625w will be enough for say crossfire 4890's with a core i7 overclocked to 4ghz and a few hdd and optical drive?

I've been browsing for a good psu and i have changed my mind so many times, first it was the hx520 as i will only have 1 graphics card, then i decided on the hx620 or the dark power pro 650w for its looks and these would hopefully allow for crossfire / sli in the future although they only come with 2 x 6+2pin, which made me think they wern't upto the job and i dont want to be messing around with converters for molex to 6+2pin. So i thought id finally decided on the hx750 as this has quad 6+2pin and will definitely future proof me to go crossfire / sli although after doubling my initial budget for a psu im hesitant to buy. Now i have come across this thread and seen the enermax modu82+ 625w which does have quad 6+2pin and is near £25 less than the hx750, although will 625w be enough for the high end setup mentioned above?

Well, i have installed it and sorted all the cables out so it looks nice

And wow, what an improvement!!

In idle the PSU is totally silent, i first off checked the fan was spinning and my computer is telling me its running at 500RPM

I am now putting load on the PSU by running Prime 95 and RTHDRIBL, the fan has increased its speed but as of yet there is no noise
The voltages are rock steady both with load and without

Im thoroughly pleased with the PSU
