I am trying to build a silent PC, I am sourcing/deciding on all the parts now, my setup will be:

E6400
Zalman CNPS8000 or NT06 (passively cooled) coolers
Asrock Conroe945G-DVI Motherboard
GeIL 1GB PC6400C5 800MHz
WD SE16 500GB SATA-II
Asus Geforce EN6600 Top Silent 512MB
Sony DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD-Writer

Now in my current setup my PSU is the loudest part (I think its a Qtek silent PSU) and this is the last part I am stuck on. I would prefer to get an external powerbrick PSU (like for laptops) but will 200W power the setup above?

If not I assume 300w will be enough? Can anyone recommend me any reasonably priced silent/v quiet PSUs?

The Corsairs are pretty much the quietest conventional psus, very quiet but not silent - and more than 300W, so a lower powered but almost identical Seasonic would do you if you don't mind the non modular cabling.

There are fanless and semi fanless alternatives by companies like Nesteq but you need to plan carefully for *some* air movement at least. They also make a 600W semi fanless external psu. 300W will probably be fine unless you go mad with peripheralss and graphics cards in the future.

Agreed, I have one and it is really quiet. Drop to a 4300 (rather than a 6400) CPU. Mad to get anything other than 2GB of RAM, TBH. I think the Samsung Spinpoint drives are quieter than the WD ones.

Invest in some quality fans as well...
