Silent X1800XT

Ive just hoovered my floor and decided to clean my pc out at the same time. A load of dust came out and i took out tmy x1800 to give it a clean aswell. I took took the default fan off, taking off the 3 screws and sucking all the crap from behind the fan. I put it back on and put the side on and fired it up again.

My comp was really quiet when it started and i though "wow, all that dust must mean fans dont have to work now" (or something like that). I thought for a few mins then remembered id not connected the fan again on graphics card. oops!

There you go, a silent X1800XT, and a slightly hot one aswell, when i touched it!

Was nice and quite without it mind

..and I bet the back of your neck suddenly went hotter than the gpu when you realised you'd not plugged the fan in

Lucky

Grab one of the Accelero X2's if you want silence mate. I quite honestly cant tell the difference between the fan on it running at 1000rpm and 2200rpm.

So much quieter than the stock cooler and my X1800XT now idles almost 10c cooler.

You got stupidly lucky, I broke an X1800XT by forgetting to plug the fan header in. The card died in 2D mode while I was browsing the web within about half an hour, I dread to think what the temperature was.

thats dogger though, im sure my 1mb onboard card could browse the net withiout dieinfg

Yeah but I don't think your 1MB onboard would go up to something like 150ºC without the stock cooler on, your X1800XT would've had it been left long enough.

I can't even figure out how to unplug the fan power header!!
