Silently awaits...

All my VMs use Windows XP, unless you specifically need Windows 7 then I'd be tempted to stick with XP for performance.

OR you can stop sounding so nerdy and chill, its late on a Saturday night, watch a film or something you nerd! :p

Lol, watched SALT on the MBP whilst doing this :p

I want windows 7 for compatibility going forward. The guts of win7 seems very fast, it's just the aero that's a tad slower but still acceptable. It helps a mate works for MS and has been attempting to turn me from the darkside :D (no chance)

Hehe :p

It should be noted that in OSX the advise to developers by apple is to memory map large files -these are counted under virtual memory- and let OSX use the memory pages for caching it rather than tying up the memory explicitly for that one purpose (most of the time these are only read without writing to them).
If you see lots of paging in of virtual memory - this is probably memory mapped files being used. However if you see paging out then that is likely to mean you've not got enough RAM as the system has to write out RAM pages to disc.

So if you have a really high virtual memory page in, where having more RAM to cache would improve performance, or if you are seeing lots of virtual memory page outs where the system hasn't got enough RAM then you may find more memory helps out.

this whole £70 for 8gb for my mbp is making me wanna go grab my wallet! arghh temptation
Hah, me too. If I put that and the upcoming new Intel SSD in then my MBP would be essentially maxed out so there'd be no reason to spend any more money for a long time. Hmm... my logic might be slightly twisted.

Is that genuine Apple RAM and not just ordinary PC RAM as there is a difference?

As others have stated - Macs in the past have been very finicky about the RAM (usually the timings).

The 8GB I installed was Corsair with an identical SODIMM ram chip arrangement as the Samsung SODIMMs taken out.

Since my MBP died... I've been using my mini, never had a swapping issue with 4GB.. until now with 8GB

:D

(Yes I know inactive means the OS is caching applications for re-execution!)
