Why can't GPUs and CPUs be tested before sale, that way you get what you pay for

Instead it just seems to be pot luck if you get something that could effectively be worth ££ or even £££ more.

Shame there's no UK silicion lottery site, there's binned chips in the US going for less than we pay for luck of the draw ones over here.

The reason is simply time taken to do so is wasted money and it means people are less likely to buy your unbinned ones as they know all the good ones are already binned.

if they did that dont you think the price would match the chip? have you not seen OcUK binned CPU's at £100 over retail, some even more

To a point most cpu/gpu's are tested before leaving the factory and then assigned to their 'performance level' under normal operating conditions. It's why we often have 'higher spec' chips being used for lesser spec items just with parts disabled due to failing parts of the testing process.

The demand is so tiny i guess they dont see a profit in it. It might be that the majority are poorer quality and if they graded them by price the few better quality ones wouldnt make up for the money loss on the poorer quality ones.

I like the potluck element, it means poor folk have a chance at getting a golden chip too If they were all priced accordingly i wouldnt have ever had one, and im sure its the same for many others on here.

Plus, the performance depends so much on the purchaser skill and also machine spec, motherboard, cooling, PSU etc. to obtain this performance
