I have a VW corrado, working mechanics but written off body.

I've been thinking about whether it would be possible to use the running gear and turn it in to a road only quad bike?

I've little mechanical or engineering experience but have always fancied building a kit car, this would just be something a little different.

Obviously problems are the wheel base is too large for a quad and I'd prefer it to be RWD instead of FWD.

Looking for genuine advice or suggestions, or even problems you could see me having to overcome. Any solutions would be great as well.

Obviously, with me being new to all of this I'd have to learn to weld or get someone to do it for me, and obviously it would need to pass the SVA test for it to go on the road so it needs to be safe.

I know its a bit crazy, but, I need something crazy to do in between working my ass of and getting my G60 sorted and photography off the ground.

There is a quad bike made from a scooby kicking around the net somewhere.
I would think that you'll need to make so much of the chassis yourself that the only usable thing from your corrado would be the engine and if your going to be building something from scratch you'd be better to base it around a smaller (bike?) engine.

Yeah I've been checking out the scooby one, very impressive!

Only reason I wanted to use the car engine and gear etc is that I already have it stuck in my garage. Don't fancy having to fork out for new engines etc.

Other option would be a kit car of some sort but wanted something a little different and better in the traffic.

The Quad. All the down sides of a car with all the down sides of a bike.

Kit car would be better if there's any out there for your engine config. You could go custom like Cloudys Warner R4 (search for it on here). It's a home built Atom type car, albeit with a bike engine.

I was thinking of custom job, hmmm, i'll have to have a look around and see if there is anything that looks half decent.

What engine is in your Corrado?

I'd say if you have you ask here, it is never going to happen.

It's a 1.8 16v engine, the 140bhp model.

It will happen, it'll just take a while as I've a G60 I also need to rebuild and another 1.8 that needs work as well.
