Silly Question about Vista

Software and driver compatibility is the main issue with 64Bit, if all your hardware has signed drivers etc there is no reason not to go 64Bit as its quicker and a big bonus you can have/use more than 3Gb of ram :) Just a quick reply but hope that is of use.

well I went v64 and drivers are fine, most of my 'office' software is fine, nero, adobe seems ok, solidworks wouldn't even install on 64 bit so stuck it in a virtual machine instead - bit slower but works. :D

Missing a few of the powertoys I had in xp but apart from that seems ok.

Most x64 problems won't relate to a brand new PC. The OS is faster, more secure and more stable (for numerous reasons including the removal of various memory/handle table limitations in the kernel). The only cons are, as above, driver support can be a bit patchy on old hardware and also 16-bit applications won't run.

I'm still running 32-bit because I've had it installed since Jan when there were a fair few driver issues with x64. I put in an order for a new CPU, mobo & ram system today though (Q6600 from X2 3800+) and not sure whether I'm gonna put 32bit or 64bit back on. Since I'm still only on 2GB Ram, I'm not sure how much improvement I'd actually see.

Drivers aren't the issue anymore. Still not enough 64bit apps, and most of those that are don't really benefit from it.
