do i need to
1 get the same card make and model i got now or
2 can i mix another supplier with more than the same spec's
what benefits would i gain

helpfull advice would be gratefull am not clued up on this matter

The GPU's have to have the same amout of VRAM.

1. They can be different models and different manufacturer.
2. Its best to get the cards that have the same GPU core/memory clock as it can cause problems!

Hope this helps!

Agree with Ben-Irvine93 here!

Different cards with different clocks may mess you around!

It isn't like RAM where one will down clock if needed to match the speed of it's neighbour!

I've heard that is the case. The cards will run at the lower clock (down clock). Or you cold simply overclock the 2nd card to match the first if that's the case. Assuming temps/volts can be kept in check etc.

What Surveyor said. Whilst SLI is (used to be?) more picky on paired cards, as I understand Crossfire is far more tolerant of mixed clock speeds, and even mixed memory size, although you'll be limited to the useable memory of the smallest.

Ie if you have 1 x1GB card and 1x 2GB card, you'll only have 1GB of useable graphics memory.
