It's probably the answer I think, but I need to know for definite.

If I bought an Asus VH222H monitor, could I just use it with a HDMI Freeview box or HDMI DVD player without having any sort of PC connected or turned on?

Not got a freeview box and not had a dvd player for a few years, so am a bit baffled.

what i meant was, i have only seen active speakers with a 3.5mm headphone type connector, would this work on that equipment.
