Silver by Infogrames Problem

Hi Guys

I'm trying to play Silver (1999 game) on an XP laptop, but when I try & install it doesn't sem to work. There are 2 CD's, but the first install's & doesn't ask for the 2nd CD - but when you try & start the game, nothing happens.

Have any of you out there any suggestions?

I had this problem too, i never got around it but i know someone on these forums has managed to get it working (in vista no less!) so it's certainly possible. The 2nd CD is only needed towards the end of the game, the game only needs the first for installation + the first portion of the game.

True, superb game.

I played it years ago on my old desktop, but it's so frustrating not being able to get it to work again.

Anyone out there with any tips would be brilliant.

Hmm not really helpful but i got this working over Christmas on my mini 9 using vista, but i dont remember having any problems getting it running.

was a great game on the dreamcast

Installed it but all the colours are messed up

Would this be due to me not installing the direct X they offered ?

Damn, every now and then I think about old games, and this is one of those ones I really WANTED to play, but never did, hell I think I first saw it brought up on the late night show Cybernet (anyone remember that?!)

Can't help but think I missed out...

That's exactly where i first heard about the game too! Ended up buying it off the back of their review and loved every moment. Really fantastic action RPG and is actually one of my favourite games ever. It had shed loads of issues but it was one of the first games i got truly hooked to and i'll always love it for that.

Hahah small world.
From all I hear though, I think Silver could almost be considered the forgotten Diablo/Baldur's Gate. Really wish I could have played it as intended when it came out.

I remember this game as well, I don't think I ever finished it though

Well, I've tried a fair few of the fixes & patches out there tonight, but still can't get the game to run on either my laptop or desktop! I guess I'm just not meant to play this game again!

Got it to run with messed up graphics but when your grandad dies I cant get through the door

Man, this game was awesome and so was the music. Remember playing it when it first came out back in the Windows 98 days. Far as I can remember though it never worked on Windows 2000 so I wouldnt even try on our currents systems.
Also came out on the Dreamcast, so I might dust it off and see if I can find a copy on the bay.

This was the thread. Can't promise it will solve everyone's issues but it certainly worked for me.

I can't remember 100% but I'm pretty sure I did.

I remember this was the first game I completed from start to finish in 3 days... love it! That final blade you get in the boss fight was like porn for me when I was 13... excitement! Shame I never got it working. Will have a go with z0mbi3's thread.

You know I always preferred Rubin's katana to that bad guys dual blades. I forget his name , Feud or something, but those dual blades were way powerful.

edit:

Actually it wasn't Rubin's, he was the hand to hand type. Katana must have come from a bad guy.
