Silverstone build quality

Talking about the SG05/06, does this bother anyone else? I can't stand how flimsy the front panel clips are, how the outer case flexes and is a right PITA to fit back on, how cheap the whole thing feels etc.

It annoys me because I love the layout of the case, I just feel that major corners were cut to keep this case below £100 when it just didn't need to be.

I'd have happily paid another £50 to have it made to the kind of standard that Lian-Li can achieve.

Like the bigger SG07/08 I would happily pay that price without the PSU for an all aluminium version with better build quality.

Its annoying that choices are limited to: good quality, poor layout (Lian-li) or good layout, poor (relatively) quality (Silverstone).

I love my Sugo SG04!

I have just completed a new system build in one of these to replace a three or four year old Shuttle.

Although I originally installed an Asus P8P67-M Pro, I am about to replace this with a RoG Maximus IV Gene-Z/Gen3. The CPU is an Intel i5 2500K.

If anyone is interested I will post the full spec! :)

lian li and build quality shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.

Admittedly i've not had a Lian-Li case for a while as their miniITX cases have about the worst layout and looks possible but surely they can't be that bad?

My V351 was a very decent case indeed for build quality.

Plus IIRC Yewen used to love them for this very reason. :)

Have things changed?

Hah, don't get me started there either. My SG03 was a great case when I used it (although it was more than a little cramped) but it wasn't well made either.

It came decently put together but when you take it apart to build then you won't get it back together properly. The mesh on the front in particular never fits back quite "right". The side panel "hooks" are a bit bizarre and a pain to fit.

The thing is there's really nothing that compete's with the SG05 for what you get and what you can do with it, It's true the case cover is flimsy and takes a bit of doing to get it on properly but once your rigs built and the flimsy cover is on it does it job and looks good :)

My SG05B 450w arrived in the post yesterday.

Inital look around the case - im chuffed to bits with it... so far.

As Pumaz says there is little that can beat what the case offers for the money.

Pleased by the overall finish. Painted interior is nice and it all feels nice and sturdy, reassuringly weighty.

Only things that have caught my attention are the front header plugs, feel like they could disintigrate at any moment. And there is a bow in top of the cover, so it stands proud from the level of the top of the plastic facia. Shows on the photo.

That doesn't look right at all. Are you sure that the internal 'lip' is actually under the metal surround, rather than on top of it?.... if that makes sense!

That sort of thing has happened to me with side panels before now.

I concur, I was doing a build with my new SG06BB yesterday and I kept missing the lip on the top side of the case which resulted in something which looks exactally like the 'bowing' issue.

In terms of build quality I agree, but there is nothing else in the market this small that can fit a 450w PSU and a full sized GPU. It's got absolutely nothing in terms of quality compared to my soon to be sold Lian Li C37B and new Fractal Mini Define (now this is a sturdy, well built case).
