Thanks partly to the advice i received here I finally decided on my rig components and built it this weekend. I thought it only fair to share what I found and I hope it saves others some hassle!

Apologies for not linking to the items themselves but this is the spec:

SG08 case with inbuilt PSU (overpriced but gave certainty on fit for PSU)
Gigabyte Z97N-Wifi-ITX
8 gig RAM
i5 CPU with OEM cooler
MSI GTX760 Frozr OC (partially due to concerns about heat from an R9)
250gig Samsung EVO primary SSD
1 gig HDD
slimline DVD drive

Objective was mid range gaming PC in a small, pretty package. It met that objective very well in the end. Observations:

1) There is no way on God's earth you can fit a DVD drive and get all the PSU/Sata wires in with 2 or more storage drives! If you can you're not human!!

2) Just as well you can't use an inbuilt DVD drive as the screws to attach it to the drive chassis are hilariously small and difficult to reach. I attached mine before I realised it wouldn't end up going in so can promise you, you need the hands of a baby brain surgeon.

3) Lots of space for CPU cooler height if you wanted. The case fan's positioning means you don't need it though - very good temps on CPU (as the reviews said to be fair here).

4) The GFX card, whilst fitting length ways due to the inbuilt PSU, is too tall for the case! It just about goes in after LOTS of swearing but the huge top mounted case fan housing fouls the radiator pipe on the top side of the card and will not screw back on to the chassis. The top cover WILL go back on the case with it unscrewed down, just. Not ideal and I feel there is some generous advertising about its capabilities on this basis.

5) The GFX card under heavy load runs at 75-80degrees. Not dangerous by any means but higher than I'd seen tested.

All in all I'm happy enough and the SG08 does look great with the brushed aluminium front etc.

Isn't the sg08 just a longer version of what I have. How does the gpu not fit? If it's the psu that's bonkers as mine came with the case and leaves plenty of room.

Can you send the case back and get a separate psu?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The PSU leaves room length wise and doesn't inhibit the GFX card in any way. It is the height of the card against the top of the case frame that is a very tight fit. The overall height of the case is misleading as the case has feet, the mobo is mounted above the floor of the case and the frame of the case at the top has metal framework that is about an inch thick running front to back.

You don't have to take my word for it of course, these are my experiences.

Bear in mind that the SG08 is actually quite an old case now and it's really a recent thing that it's commonplace to have graphics cards with obscenely tall coolers and heatpipes sticking up all over the place. So I'd say it's not so much an issue with the case or its marketing, more that it's simply an outdated product.

With respect that's just not true at all. It is marketed as taking ANY GFX card up to a certain length. There is no mention of any other concern or limitation. Nor has it been mentioned in any build thread I have seen, and I did my research to try and avoid exactly this scenario.

Also, the card I bought is a GTX760 - hardly on the bleeding edge of technology and well over a year old.

I am trying to help anyone who may have been considering a similar idea to me. I didn't bank on this forum being quite to negative.

What's with the defensive attitude?

I simply pointed out that the SG08 is quite an old case and, as a result, its marketing is also going to be quite old - Silverstone isn't going to write new marketing materials outlining an old product's shortcomings. And clearly the SG08 can't fit ANY card up to a certain length because it's only a 2-slot case. Titan Z wouldn't fit, the old 3-slot Asus DirectCU II coolers wouldn't fit, so don't start shouting "SILVERSTONE SAID IT WOULD FIT ANYTHING!!!!"

Yes it's unfortunate that your card with top-edge heatpipes doesn't fit. Yes it's unfortunate that the functional case dimensions are different to published dimensions, but the only "negativity" I'm detecting here is you jumping down my throat for merely commenting on the SG08's outdated nature, and in turn questioning the credibility of this forum as a whole.
