Good morning all.

This is something which I have wanted to do for some time, and with the imminent arrival of a SilverStone SG13 from OcUK (hopefully tomorrow!) it seemed appropriate to share my building experience with you, along with some photos. I shan't promise any timescales, but I hope to carry out the build in the evenings of the coming week.

I have some spare components lying about, and whilst a little nervous about how I am going to cram them into something so small, having looked at a couple of reviews online I've decided that it won't be that tricky. Famous last words?!?

So, the components - nothing fancy, but capable enough as a backup system and deserving of a nice looking case. Oh yes by the way, I am a bit of a SilverStone fanboy!

* SilverStone SG13
* Pentium G3258 @ 4.2GHz (1.19v)
* Asus H81I-Plus
* 8GB Kingston HyperX @ 1333MHz
* Corsair H60 (2013 Edition)
* 128GB Crucial MX100
* Corsair CX430M (ATX)
* Windows 7 64-bit

Watch this space, and I'll aim to get this mini-project started shortly :)

Hi all, quick update... for which I hope I am not breaking forum rules. I've actually just started a blog and have decided to run the build log (amongst other things) from there, and will therefore not be majorly updating via this thread.

If interested, please see the link in my sig. Once some SG13 pics do get posted, I'll post a v quick update here. Thanks :)

All built, and SUPER tiny as expected - a very quick build (save for the photos I took). All in all... £36? Bargain.

Full build log and photos can be found here :) tiny.cc/rr8qvx

Quick update - just tried installing my MSI R9 270 TF IV... but to no avail. Card is 10.5 inches from PCI bracket to end of cooler (much longer than PCB), and just would not go. Uninstalled PSU too.

Only way you could do it would be to install motherboard then card, BEFORE front fan and radiator. Perhaps.

So - teeny card hunt ahead. Open to suggestions for around £100 :)

I've changed my mind again (as I'm too tight to buy a new card), so will be dismantling it all tonight, and fitting the MSI 270 TF IV first.

Fingers crossed, but I'm quite hopeful :)

2105 according to CPU-Z, can't check accurately as busy installing games on it!
What settings specifically have you changed in bios?

(After much testing) multiplier to 42, VCore to 1.2... and that's it! Nothing fancy. Was always reluctant to upgrade to later BIOS as heard rumours that H81 overclocking may be disabled. I guess you have disproven that at least!

Sounds similar to my setup now. Only real difference is I'm on Win 7 64-bit. XMP Profile appears right above multiplier field for me... maybe your RAM doesn't have XMP settings?

It's probably something to do with the Windows 8 EFI secure boot thing. System reboots boots silly fast and presumably skips the point where the BIOS tells the system the max multiplier.
I have HyperX Fury 1333MHz Black RAM.

Did you ever get this sorted? I'm on Windows 10 Preview now... and experiencing exactly the same issue! 3.2GHz after a restart!
