Hi all,

I've just started a build and have a problem with the PSU.

I connected it to the mains with no connections to motherboard and switched it on. Nothing happened, no fan movement, no hum at all, just nothing. When I went to turn it off (using its own switch) it wont flip back to the off (O) position.

Even when I disconnect the mains lead from it, it still wont return to the off position. Just springing back to the on position.

I'm not sure if it should work with no load on, I presumed it would spin up the fan or at least I'd be able to feel/hear a hum, even unloaded.

Any ideas, other than returning it? I dont have a spare PSU to check my build and its somewhat annoying.

Thanks for any help

Hi

It won't switch on without being connected to the motherboard, as it needs a signal from the motherboard to tell it to power up. You can do the paperclip test to short out a couple of wires, but you might as well try it in the system first.

If you have the pc built then just connect the 24 pin and 4/8 pin cpu cable and see if it boots up. Make sure it is switched off at the mains first.
