Hi Guys,

I put together a pc for a m8 on a really tight budget. I got a SilverStone Strider Plus SST-ST50F-P 500W of the members market for him at a good price and it would have been fine for the project I thought I was building 2500k
and a amd 5850 gfx card. However he has instead managed to get his hands on a 580 gtx which is obviously a nicer card, but I worry this psu wont be up to the job of a 2500k @4.5ghz and a 580gtx.

Am I worrying for nothing or do you think this is a disaster waiting to happen?

Feedback much appreciated

It's not a particularly good psu and has a very weak 12v rail of only 408w for a so called 500w unit. I know the GTX580 is more efficient than the GTX480 but when I had a 480 along with my i5 760 @ 4.2Ghz I was regularly seeing a power draw of more than 400w. I wouldn't want to risk it with that psu and would be looking at a proper 550-550w unit that can deliver all of it's power on the 12v rail.

ok thanks for the feedback.... My thoughts exactly.

It will be ok for now just surfing the net and media usage. I will tell him not to game on it till he gets a better psu. Or if he does it's at his own risk.
