Silverstone TJ07 - help

I have been struggling with high temps and poor airflow.

Hopefully the specs are in the signature.

I have changed all the Silverstone fans and now have Noctua 120s on the top exhausting, two 92 ambers on the back exhausting (just changed from intake but made no difference) 2 120 ambers on the side in-taking, a 120 amber (in a scythe karma) in taking on the front and the psu in-taking on the side and exhausting on the back. Finally, a Alaska exhaust blower under the 8800GTX.

The system is overclocked to 3.4 and has 4.215 vcore. Temps are 51/52 idle and 70/75 stressed. With no clock it is about 46/60 - same ambient temp. Measured in Core Temp.

I have reseated the Zalamn numerous times and in different positions. AS seems to cover well. It disconcerts me that I can twist easily -only stopped by a heatpipe. I is bolted as tight as I can get it. It seems to be doing nothing - not even warm.

I was thinking of replacing it with an Titan Amanda or the new 120 TT Extreme - views? I assume I have a concave CPU - don't really want to lap it but may have no choice. I do not really have the time or probably expertise to go water.

Cable management is not bad or great but I think it is as good as it is going to be unless I find even longer cable extensions.

It was not too bad before the 8800 GTX was installed and I noticed a 6 degree drop in temps with the side off - so I think it is created an air flow problem.

I thought I would try and solve this by installing the karma and changing the orientation of the rear fans. I think it has helped the airflow issue -little drop in with the side off but it is still at 51/52 idle.

How have others set up their TJ07?

Any other suggestions?

Tuniq tower it's the best period.I'm 4300 clocked to 3.2ghz idles around 30c
full orthos load after a while 55c never goes above that and dips.

Err - not in tests! Though its good but not as good as the TT Extream

Without wanting to sound too harsh, it sounds like a case of more money than sense. You have some expensive hardware in a very expensive case.

I'm sure that case was designed with watercooling in mind and then silverstone made it marketable (made up word?) by converting it to aircooled, moving HDD down into conveniently removable bays etc. Most (a lot of) people buy that case to put a 120.3 in the bottom and a possible a 120.2 in the roof too and move the HDD up into drive bays.

The aircooling is a bit suspect with default fan positions sucking air in the back (if case is in a corner, near a wall or under a desk you can just get air circulating in and out of the case, getting hotter and hotter) Don't just think of the airpath inside the case, but also what is happening outside too.

However, more positively, make sure that the 92mm fans blow the same direction as the fan on the 9500 - i.e have them blowing in and the 9500 blowing left to right. Try the other way, 92mm's out and 9500 right to left.

Can you have the 9500 blowing up into the 120mm roof exhaust?

Failing that, get a better cpu cooler, one of the tower designs as recommended above.

Last resort, go water, that's what that case screams out for anyhow.

Of course you will have to weigh up the odds here....why do you need it cooler? If it's stable and you are only only seeking peace-of-mind, is it worth it?

/edit/ if you have already tried my suggested fan/cooler combinations, then ->lap the cpu-> replace cooling (in that order until you are happy)

Thanks - its a crime spending money on PCs? And you are encouraging me to spend more on watercooling!

But thanks anyway. I have tried all your combinations and the Zalman is definiately the right way round- best open a window - that drops temps by 10 degrees so your comments about the outer environment ring true. I think water cooling here I come.

Actually - at 37 degrees idle with the window open- the latest front fan addition and changing the back fans to exhaust may have worked.
