Hi, everyone.
This is my first post on this forum. I would like ask you for advise.
I would like build small PC. (in mATX format).
I am thinking of two platforms:

Core i7 or Core i5, ;)
I have not decided yet but: for my case I choose: Silverstone TJ08B.

I saw pictures I really like it, looks quite pretty :p

My concern is CPU heat sink. I do not know which one will fit.

CPU Core i7 920 or 930 or 950 (when the price drops)

For Core i7 motherboard will be -> Asus Rampage III Gene Intel X58
Memory -> Corsair Dominator GT, DDR3 PC3-12800(1600) 6GB
GPU-> GTX460.

I do not plan overclock CPU more the 3.2GHz (some of you will ask me, -
what is the point to buy Core i7) Well.... :p I had Core 2 Duo E8500 and GTS250,Asus Rampage Formula, I gave it to my sister, she needed computer.
So now I would like buy some new toys for myself ;)

Now Core i5 platform
CPU-> Core i5 760
Motherboard->Asus Maximus III GENE
Memory-> Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 PC3-12800(1600), 4GB.

Very big advantage of Core i5 platform is much less heat the Core i7.
My second concern is X58 chipset, this heat sink on Rampage III Gene is too small, in my opinion will be a problem with heat. What do you think about this
?
Has anyone have this motherboard ?

Thank you for your time for reading :)

HI MichalP - welcome to OCuk,

You shouldn't have a problem with many heatsinks in there - the TJ08 is hardly SFF. Plenty of tower coolers fit, its just a case of deciding which one you want - might fit a Corsair H50 in if you're lucky - its is a 120mm exhaust fan, so you can take coolers to around 145mm.

Unless you are going to splash out on a very nice GFX card I'd go with the 1158 socket.

Thank you for your reply.

I decided for Asus Rampage Gene III

For the CPU cooler I would like know if this is good choice:

Thermalright AXP-140 140 RT ? any suggestions ? ( I know that this cooler is not "tower" one, but I think that the fan can blow air for NB on motherboard as well.

Could you please advise me, it is good choose?

I do not what block HDD cage! and Does Dominator DDR memory module is not too tall ?

I cannot find anything in google about it.

My existing PSU is Corsair HX850 modular so (cable management will be easy)

Blocking the HDD is inevitable unfortunately.

Normal RAM is ok anything with extra height cooling fins will hinder getting the drives in and out.

Most CPU coolers will also hinder adding or removing HDD's.

It is most likely that you will need to remove cooler and ram or the graphics card and mobo tray to get access to HDD.

I think you might be taking it to extremes if you need to take the GFX and motherboard out to get the hard drive cage, but I'd agree that you're going to struggle with the memory heatsink height.

Whoever built this has used what resembles a TRUE120 so you can certainly fit a decent cooler in there.

As for the NB getting hot - if you're not overclocking (3.2 is hardly pushing it) it then I don't see that happening too much - have a look at thermalright for NB and mosfet coolers maybe(HR-05?). If you start looking at something like the AXP-140 or a shuriken then you need to make sure it clears the mosfet heatsink.

Just saw the Tuniq propellar - looks interesting.

May I ask what the rest of your setup would be as you are going for the i7?

Thank you for your answer.

Why I am going ? hmm.. As I said before I had Core 2 Duo E8500,
Asus Rampage Formula, GTS250, I gave it to my sister, she needed.
I think that buying again Core 2 Duo for myself is not a good option.
I would like NEW platform.
I compared two system on i5 (750) 4GB ram, and i7 (920) 6GB ram... and the different in the price is not that big as it was 10 months ago.
I wanted good power full CPU which I can use for the next 2 - 3 years. (maybe this is funny) :D or if is needed then I can easily over-clock.

Why I decided for such a small case. Because everything is getting smaller,
CPU, (exception is high end graphic cards) but GTX460 looks nice, cool and quite power-full. I would like add also, that I really like how does it look like, this small case from Silverstone.

There is additional option, I kept my old case. Is normal one big ATX from Silverstone, I can use it for my new rig, Maybe will be better, less hassle with cooling. Much more space, air flow, all advantages and looks pretty :)

I am between small new case TJ08 or my old one. Silverstone Fortress

At the moment I have got only power supply from Corsair HX850 180mm long
HDD 1TB WD Green and 2 Samsung 500GB F3 (worked in Raid0)
DVD-RW short one (from Lite-On)
Silverstone Fortress FT01B-W

FOR the rest of my system I would like

Core i 7 920 -930
Motherboard; Asus or Evga ? (need advise)
Maybe this one Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58
Memory (is it worth to pay nearly £220 for Dominators GT 7-7-7-21) ? (need advise)

Thank you,
