Hey guys, I got back into simcity 4 recently in anticipation for SC5 and Ive run into graphical problems

Ive got an i5 2500k at 4.5ghz and a 7970 but still im getting just 15fps!, after searching on the internet for ages all i could find is stuff like set it to software rendering but that doesnt really help, not to mention the tree's in the middle of my avenue's render then disappear, render then disappear continually

All settings are on low but still no good?! anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Stev.

IIRC one of the Sim City versions used a hardware acceleration method that doesn't work any more, so runs on software rendering with certain setups.

Do you have any mods on there? I think without some mods eg the traffic one (forgot what it's called but it's in the SC4 thread) you can run into problems.

Use software render instead, it should help most lag situations as hw mode is buggy for new gfx cards. Also there are some startup commands for the exe that might help, duno off the top of my head tho which they were, but i think there was some for more ram, and multi core support or somit tho not 100% sure. etc.

May help some.

Loaded my game up yesterday to find half the region I'd built had been replaced with grassland.

Not a happy bunny. Not impressed at all.

Anyhow if you fix this and find your game is crashing afterwards you need to set the affinity via task manager to one core.

i5 2500k 8gb ram 6800 @ 1920x1080

Its defo wrong as I Get 45-60 FPS

Hardware render
Med - Vis/Car/Shadows
High - Build/Texture/City Detail

No idea how to help though :(

Edit: Building can take me a sec to render when half zoomed out

I run it on i5, 5850, 8gn ram. Works fantastically well.

Apart from crashing constantly, rendering the game unplayable so its been uninstalled.

Since when was 'constantly crashing' classed as working 'fantastically well'?

I really hope I missed some sarcasm in my early morning state. :)

If you didn't detect the sarcasm even in a morning state then there is probably (read: definitely) something slightly wrong with you. :p
