ok, so do I need to worry ? do i ignore it?

Nah, it's usually fine. Only issue I've ever encountered with this is when registering for RCS in Google Messages. It was failing to register with the RCS server until my SIM provider sent me a new SIM with the number attached to it. Rather than the SIM I ported the number to.

Huh, RCS registered fine for me with many SIMs that had a different number than my actual number.

On the other hand I moved to EE a couple months back and after the port date the inbuilt number was replaced with my real number, first time I seen that happen. With previous networks the SIM manager always showed the original number assigned to the SIM even after porting.

It didn't for me, and only getting a new SIM from the network operator after explaining my issue solved it. It's not a hard fact though, I recently ported my number to Smarty and I've had no issues with RCS.

I use an iPhone to change the number on the SIM (Settings>Phone>My Number then just type in the correct number in the format +44 XXXX XXXXXX, dropping the leading zero in the code). I don't know why Android doesn't also allow you to do it.

im just looking at the "about phone" page

and my number is not listed here either
saying a different number !!
That's normal, it's been the case for me with O2, giffgaff, 3 and BT. Only time I saw it change to my ported number was with EE. Won't affect anything with your phone.
