Sim racing with a 3090?

I would like to upgrade to the 30 series, would there be any advantage going for the 3090 over the 3080 if I am using 7680 x 1440?
I am trying to chase FPS in Asseto corsa competizione. Upgrading from an 5700xt which just does not cut it with this title.

I have pretty much the same question for a slightly different brief. I've recently got a 5440x1440 monitor which seems a bit more difficult to run than my 3440x1440 and like adventure games and racing games. The RTX 2080 I have struggles with Assasins Creed Odyssey and I'm sure it will struggle with Cyberpunk and Watch Dogs so would I need a 3090 or can I get away with a 3080?

Wait for benchmarks simply put IMO. The 3090 of course will bring more power to the table, but you pay a premium for the best.

For sure wait for benchmarks, i have not tried a 2080ti with ACC but I hear it does not quite cut the mustard.
Surely the 3090 must do the business, I had set aside the money for a 3090 not knowing what the 3080 would cost. I did not expect the 3080 to come in at that price. I am surprised and now not really knowing if the extra for the 90 will be worth it.

I mainly sim race (VR) and now MS Flight Simulator 2020 (3440x1440 UW). For these, I could definitely benefit from more than my 2080Ti can offer.

As I use VR and SuperSampling up to 250% in AC for example, I can reach 15.9m pixels (5560*2864) but have to play with other settings to get it smooth.

7680*1440 is just over 11m pixels so would have thought 2080Ti would be OK but if not, then sensible thing to do might be to wait for 3080Ti with more memory or see what AMD do. That's what I'll be doing I think.

Only just starting to look and will be waiting for benchmarks/other user experiences at the very least personally.

@mikeym. I want to try VR, waiting for the reverb g2. It appears VR is the most GPU hungry although I have no experience. You have a monster pc according to your sig, have you been underwhelmed by the VR Performance?
I say underwhelmed with a pinch of salt as enough is never enough in tech.
My goal would be to achieve 100fps ultra with ACC @ 7680*1440. I would buy the 3090 if I could achieve that.

I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas, the biggest and fastest GPU around. My Pimax 8K will finally be getting the pixels it craves and I can pump up the quality.
I just hope AMD can bring some game and a bit of price competition to the party to save me some moolah.
I've had 3 good years out of my 1080Ti and one of my kids will get it as a hand me down, I've had good value out of it, and didn't see the point of upgrading for the 20 series, bit of a damp squib when you look at the leap forward now.
I'm a little bit excited by the performance gains, I hope I can resist the urge to splurge over the next few months.

I enjoyed VR even with my 1080 before. Certainly not underwhelmed with 2080ti but there are always some sacrifices to be made to get balance between fps and IQ. Just wait as long as you can and buy the best that you can justify spending the money on. 3080 up is going to provide a great experience by the looks of things but I'd still wait for revie2s/specific benchmarks and possibly hold on to see what AMD do and when a 3080ti might arrive.

Same boat here, my 2080 struggles at this resolution so i think a 3080 is going to be the sweet spot. Reviews will confirm this of course.

I've been doing AC in VR from a couple of years now on a Pimax 5k+ On my 2080ti, AC does 120hz with most settings maxed out and 160% steam SS. I got reverb G2 on order and that will require less overall grunt than the pimax.

When I did a couple of hours of iracing a few months ago that was even more optimized and had no issue with the 2080ti at 120hz.

ACC is a whole diff matter due to their internal development decisions. I don't play ACC for other reasons but you'll sadly need brute power to get past it's hurdles. The other hope their update their engine to the new Unreal branch that will support DLSS and VR optimizations. https://news.developer.nvidia.com/new-features-to-dlss-coming-to-nvidia-rtx-unreal-engine-4-branch/

For sure it’s an ACC issue, I am trying to compete but my system can’t keep up. It would make more sense to just drop the title, but I’m a stubborn old git.

I have managed to order a 3090 strix OC. I hope this is enough to get what I want, not sure what else can be thrown at it.
I have other uses for the card aside from gaming/sim.
When is it available, who knows? Ordered at 14.23 after the site wobbling etc.
Certainly something to look forward to.
Hopefully Dan Suzuki gets his 3090 and compares it to the 3080 with triples soon.

I race with tripples in ACC @ 5760x1080p. I currently have an RTX 2080 (rest of my spec is in my sig below.) I have mostly high settings and have the fps locked at 75fps as that is the refesh rate of my AOC gaming monitors. Managed to snag a RTX 3090 today which has been shipped. Prob wont get it till Monday but i will get it fitted and unlock the FPS and report back and let you know what sort of fps i can get with the 3090.
