Im In Me Mums Car
Sorry this post might be a bit of a long one...

Last night was rudely awoken at 2:50am to our sensor on the front drive activating inside the house. We have a motion-activated floodlight on the front drive that also activates a speaker to 'ring' inside the house to let us know someone/something is there.

I jump out of bed to see some kid wandering off my driveway, obviously been hanging around next to the front door/cars due to where the sensor is positioned for the light/speaker. Im guessing the bright lights of the floodlight, illuminating him like a xmas tree and the fact he would have heard the speaker ringing as its positioned behind the front door on the stairs scared him off.

Anyways I quickly throw some clothes on (was a warm night :p) and shoot round the corner in my car to find him breaking into a house front door!! Cheeky little sod. He quickly darted off and I phoned the rozzers, said they'd located him on their cctv and was sending a car but I've heard no more since then.

I doubt he'll return to this house now he knows he's not gonna have a quiet entry but want to get some cctv installed now on the front just incase this ever happens again, touch wood though...

Can someone recommend a decent cctv camera that is reliable, I have no idea about cctv setups!? Had a quick look and some include lan cables and such like. Which is of no use because the wiring will have to come into the front upstairs bedroom but the internet router (which i presume it plugs into) is at the back of the house and can't be located to the front room as there is no phone socket. What do they record to, do they have a HDD attached? Im completely clueless as I say!

Many thanks!

A friend of mine installs CCTV. Uses Hikvision kit in both network and SDI form.

Decent quality and well priced.

If you go network, then the camera will need a network connection and power, or power over ethernet. They can either record to an internal SD card, a DVR, or a network share.

SDI cameras have to have a DVR or a PC with a card in to receive and record the video. For a single camera, the network solution is probably easier.
