Simple photo edit?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find a way to do what I think should be a simple edit of this photo. Basically, I want to:
  • cut the remote out of the background,
  • make it sketch style, potentially reversing the colours to do so, and
  • add the text 'Lil dinker' in stylised writing above
I'm sure I've been able to do something similar in free software before, but simply cannot remember how. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I want to put the end result on a T shirt as a birthday present for my girlfriend as an inside joke. She called the remote the 'lil dinker' in possibly her most Devon moment to date!
