Simple question: 9600gt or 8800gt?

I've got around £120 to spend on a graphics card, but there's so many options at that price. I'm only planning to do simple gaming - highest res 1660.

Which would be my best option?

MSI GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB : £117.49

vs.

Gainward GeForce 9600 GT "Golden Sample" 512MB : £117.49

8800gt

8800gt edges it in gaming performance 9600gt is a newer architecture with better support for hdmi but slightly slower than 8800gt

8800 GT is faster, 9600 has HDMI.

BUT the new cards are out soon, and the 4850 series from ATI is meant to be very fast. It could be worth you saving up for a few weeks (they will be released then anyways) and grab that card.

If you want a 8800 or 9600 card, basically go for the cheapest one possible.

You can get 8800GT with HDMI tho not sure OCuk sells them...

8800GT is the superior card - when stuff comes out that uses more streaming processors the 9600 will get left far behind.

Depends on the res you play at really... if you got the extra cash and play at 1680x or above then it maybe worth it.

Two things:

As said 4850 out in next couple of days for around £130 so may be worth the extra tenner if the performance matches/beats a 9800GTX as rumours say.

Secondly, expect GT/GTS prices to fall over the next week so the last thing I would be doing is buying a new card today.

Already 2nd hand 8800GT cards are only making £50 on that auction site.

Pug - do you think OCUK will have them in a couple of days, or is that just when the NDA on reviews closes?
