Simple question. Would you ever, as a Man, consider wearing a Kilt?

Firstly, some important technical background.

All subjects of the Crown have the right to wear Royal Stewart tartan, not just Scotsmen.

TL;DR

In the same way that clansmen wear the tartan of their chief, it is appropriate for all subjects of the Queen to wear the Royal Stewart tartan.

(I assume that this applies to all Commonwealth realm states too. Not just the UK, so all such citizens are also invited to express an opinion)

Now, I am tempted. I do not like wearing trousers really and will generally wear "Long" (Just above Knee) shorts, even in the winter (I dislike the feeling of material around my lower legs. Long socks are OK, but Trousers Not)

The problem is, there comes a time in life when wearing shorts looks a bit strange.

The question is, would wearing a Kilt look more or less strange?? :p :D

(I have been told that my lower legs would actually look pretty damn good under a Kilt. Slim ankles and massive hairy 17" calf muscles! Would defiantly not be mistaken for a Trannie-Man wearing a skirt! :D )

So, what does GD think? Would GD (Men) ever consider wearing a Kilt? (Particularly with reference to SE England)

(And also, what does that rare beast, The GD Woman, feel about the matter? :D )

If so, why? If not, why not?

;) :D

If you're wearing it properly, you dont actually have much leg on show.

I'm Scottish, so I wear a kilt. I'm tall and quite large with big legs, if I wear a suit I look like i'm on my way to a court appearance so i'm glad I can wear a kilt.

It would be a bit strange outside Scotland if you didn't have some Scottish Highland Ancestry. I'd have assumed that the Royal Stewart tartan is perhaps more useful for Scottish people (or indeed any Scottish residents) who don't have a Highland clan.

I mean I guess it allows say descendants of lowland Scots something to wear or indeed perhaps say someone who is a second generation immigrant and happy to consider himself Scottish. They don't have the clan ancestry but it's good that they've also got an option.

The Scotch aren't the only ones with kilts. I point you towards the Cornish, for example...

Are those things legit? I don't know if some of that is historical revisionism, there are companies out there flogging Welsh kilts too... I'm wondering if at best maybe a handful of people had been documented as having once worn them and they're now being pimped to Americans etc.. as part of their heritage :D

Do you wear underwear, or do you you go full Braveheart in one, and hope there’s not a cold wind that day?

What?
Having lived in Cornwall for a fair few years I have never seen or heard of a cornishman in a kilt.
Shocked .

I did have a quick google, these things do exist, but it seems to be a modern thing, some BS to sell to tourists or to I guess the rather nutty Cornish nationalists Moses mentions.

Kilts are Scottish, they've just been adopted more recently as a "Celtic" thing.

The mental Cornish nationalists are few are far between, thankfully. Mebyon Kernow types etc. Tbf I've lived in Scotland for a year and only see kilts on the buskers and guys in fancy dress outside The Balmoral Hotel :p.

Well I guess you don't generally see formal wear day to day in England either, aside from perhaps blokes stood outside Hotels in say a morning suit too.

I’ve considered buying one in the past, but would never really have the occasion to wear one without standing out, and my clan tartan isn’t the nicest either... :D

I would but only for a few days in Scotland just to see what it felt like......also have to be in summer as I'm not freezing my bits off !!

I wear mine every chance I get, much nicer than a suit. Really comfortable and, I think, much better looking. Not just formal wear either. Ive worn it to rugby games, nights out and occasionally to work. Plus, ladies love a kilt!

Phew, it's a good job you signed off your name there, I was wondering who you were for a second there!

Oh and your jingle-jangles are hanging out.
