Simple question: x2 + 3870xt, good or bad?

Im looking to add a second graphics card to my 3870 and im looking at 3 options:

1. a second 3870 for crossfire
2. An X2 to crossfire x with my 3870 (if it will work properly at the mo.)
3. a 4870 if they are crossfire x compatible with 3 series.

What do people think?

also does anyone know the intended release date of the 4xxx series?

long wait, ill be going to uni in october too so money may be a bit tight, thats why im looking to upgrade and get my rig sorted for then.
 
Going by the other thread about the 3870 price drop, getting an extra would be a pretty nice bump in performance.
 
ive got an X38 board, the maximus formula. whats the requirements for drivers will i get away with having catalyst 8.3 and they will both work fine?
 
4*** for get about cause you dont even know if they will run with a 3*** series card.And as for drivers what do you mean get away with.Tri crsossfirex only got put into the drivers at 8.2 so if your going the x2 way your have to use the 8.2/8.3.Go look at a few reviews should tell you all you need to know.
