From reviews the 3100+ is about 8% faster than the 336 overall, price to perforance the 336 is probably a better buy.

Nice thing about going Intel at this time is that if you choose a cheap compatible board you can always go conroe later. My Celeron performs better than a stock p4 3.2 on a moderate oveclock. Nice to mess around with until i get my conroe
