simple question b4 i splurge cash for no reason on a new psu.
i have just bought a point of view gtx280(the assasins creed one), would my current psu which is 550watt run it? i know that this is the min spec for 280 cards. the ampage across the 12v rails is 38A. i just want to know if the card will work in the meantime while i save for a better psu.

It should be fine if its a good branded psu.

And fail @ buying gtx280 ;).
4870x2 which is pretty much twice as fast costs just more 80, and thats HIS with 1yr longer warranty.

And normal 4870 is 100 less and is pretty much as good unless you play on 30" monitor then its a bit slower.

On the PSU side I can recommend Thermaltake Toughpower 750W. Great stuff and very cheap at the same time.

so this 40A required business for the card is not that important?
as to not getting this gpu, already ordered! nearly went for the 4870 but was not fussed on the reported high temp settings and prefer nvidia drivers. went with radeon once and it was a nightmare! was a close call between the cards tho.

High temps are high because the cooling is crap, but that isnt an issue unless you want to overclock it .

And on the drivers side, there aint much problems with nvidia ones maybe because there arent any of them ? lol ...

38A should be fine, however, as I said, cant guarantee it :).
