im in the middle of moving house and the modem will have to be in my bedroom, as with the routor. i was wondering, is it possible to place the modem under the floorboards? (its an old house) i dont think overheating would be an issue as its pretty cool under there. (its a bedroom)

there are 2 radiator pipes in the same section of cavity but i dont think this would matter?

router would be fine on the desk as its not that bad looking :D

btw, im not laying carper over the top as the wood is already stained.

Should be fine, but I would highly recommend getting a modem router. Modem's dont emit much heat, but the router will emit more. The only issue would be having to acess it if you ever need to attatch something or just reset it. Makes troubleshooting a pain!

my idea was the router under the floorboards under the pc desk (that way they dont have to be nailed down) and 2 wires (ethernet and power) going up to the socket in the wall / router on the desk. so it wouldnt be hard to reset it, just flick the switch.

and yea i have noticed, my router seems to get VERY hot so thats why im avoiding putting it down there aswel. but its given me no problems, if one were to fail i would go down the modem router road.

just been toying the idea of fixing the router on the bottom of the desk, but as heat rises it might not work very well.

I dont see a problem with having it under the floors, although if you have a combined modem router you can reset/reboot it remotely

Should be fine, but it would be good to leave yourself able to access it in the future.

There's probably an argument for putting the modem by the master socket if youre on adsl, then running a length of cat5 to your room.
