Hi,

I have an Athlon 64 3700 (San Diego) with 2 x 512MB PC3200 RAM. I wanna upgrade to 2 GB. Now I know people say to get 2 x 1GB sticks, but I havent really got the money.

I understand I have to get 2 x 512MB sticks, rather than just popping in 1GB stick. That would make 2 x 512MB and 1 x 1GB, you can't do that can you? they all have to be the same size?

Thanks

You can do it, but they won't run in dual channel, obviously, and they end up in 2T mode instead of 1T mode. Basically, the memory is a bit slower and if you get cheap dodgy stuff it doesn't always work reliably, though I've had a PC set up a bit like that for the last few years and not had any problems.
