I'm looking for a very simple app which will just show a full-screen slideshow of a series of JPG images. I want to stick it on a CD/DVD with image so it auto-runs when the disc is inserted and just cycles through them in a full-screen window.

Simple enough huh? So why does every single slideshow app I can find want to turn the damn pictures into a video? I don't want a flippin' video, I just want it to show the images in sequence with a reasonable or configurable delay. Too much to ask? Anyone have any ideas?

Surely that's because on PC the slideshow 'effect' is determined by the software thats interfacing with the jpgs.

On CD/DVD that interfacing will be determined by the individual hardware player and the features the firmware has in it. As they are all different then the standard way would be to create the slideshow in a video.

As an example I have a Pioneer DVD here that will recognise jpg's to view them but has no slideshow facility, yet the Panasonic one in my living room has a slideshow feature.

Yeah I'd assume the video creating ones are for people who want an actual video DVD they can put in a standalone player whereas I just want something to run on a PC and load the images in sequence.

The standard Windows Picture Viewer in slideshow mode does what I want but I don't think there's any way to get it to autorun from a DVD and show the pictures in a specific folder.

Faststone Image Viewer has a built-in slideshow builder that will take the images you want, configure it as you want and save it as a single .exe file with all the settings and images contained in it.
