My Mum recently bought a new computer with Windows 7, having upgraded from XP she is struggling to use the new built in wizard to copy pictures from her digital camera (Canon Ixus) to her pictures folders.

Anyone know of any free/cheap simple programs that will make this task as easy as possible?

If not I shall persevere and try to teach her how to use the windows 7 one

I *think* when she used to use XP a simple wizard would popup that would allow her to select the pictures she wanted, then copy them to a folder. In Win7 I think this wizard has had a makeover, and has become awful.

I'm still to see this all in action - I'm visiting this weekend - just thought I'd put in some groundwork

I'm using windows explorer to get mine off the camera/card onto the machine. Not sure what else you mean :)

This. When you plug the camera in and turn it on, don't "import pictures and videos using Windows", select "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer".

Open the card in the windows that pops up (it might take you straight into the card) then into the DCIM folder and your pics will be there. Copy them to where you need them.

Simples.

I use windows explorer and think it's just fine, but getting my Mum to successfully click & drag to select the photos she wants and copy them to another location is next to impossible.

Hence the need for an idiots wizard!

It's pretty simple tbh... Plug the camera in and turn it on and then press the import button.

What about windows live photo thing, it does quite a decent job of importing pictures and deciding what is new. Its free and will launch from the prompt you get when you plug in the camera.

Suggest Picasa, it allows importing of photos, automatically sorted, the ability to edit them, print etc.

If my wife can use it, anyone can ;)
