Simple to swap over these CPU coolers?

Ok, So I currently have this CPU cooler and I want to buy this CPU cooler and replace it.

The Cooler I am replacing is the first and only Cooler I have ever fitted. Would I need to take off the backplate, bracket etc. from the previous cooler or would I just need to take off the old Cooler from the bracket and fit this new one on to it? Just so I know whether I need to dismount my MB. Thanks.

The fittings/package contents look similar for both intel and AMD for the Voodoo and the venom (click on the contents tab for both for comparison) - so there's every chance it may be a smooth transition.

Why are you swapping - is it possible to attach another akasa fan to your present venom for a push/pull effect?

I think it's really just an itch to buy new stuff. I suppose I could do that. I probably won't be buying this for a while yet, but I just wanted to know for future reference. Do you reckon this would perform noticably better than what I currently have?

I can't find any reviews for direct comparison but the voodoo has 2 extra heatpipes and the extra fan - so you should see a marked perfromance boost. But a push/pull configuration on your present HS would probably closely match the performance at a cheaper price (just an option as i fully understand the itch to try something new.).

Having said that if the colour scheme isn't an issue and you want guaranteed better performance with larger margins i would look at the Silver Arrow it's virtually second to none for price to performance ratio - you need low profile memory though.

Ok, I have had a look at that CPU and it certainly looks a beast. I imagine this would need me to remove my MB etc?

Depends what access you have under the MB tray - if you have a large hole and can access the holes for the mounting plate, in theory, you should be able to fit it in situ (but i wouldn't attempt this when fitting a monster cooler for the first time).

In reality, for first fit, you would need to remove the motherboard so that you get a good idea how it all fits together. Once fitted correctly it is possible to re-mount without taking the MB out as the main holding brackets remain attached to the MB.
