My motherboard is goosed, friend has given me a Gigabyte P5k-vm G33 to replace it,

I am thinking to save some pennies as i am quite content with what i have, is get myself an SSD which such increase the computer speed some bit and a new case - as my current one is donkeys old and has no side on?

also i have uped my ram to 6gb. will i be able to clock a little with the g33?

cheers

From what i've read you can OC, you're cooler is pretty good as well.

An SSD would speed it up no end. It works separate to the CPU so don't worry about it being slowed down.

A SATAIII SSD will run at SATAII still making ti really fast, trust me. Well worth a purchase.

A new xcase may be good. Do you want a ATX or mATX case?

Am not too sure i think i want a midi case so mATX but not sure on what i wanna spend £60ish on case.

Well i read that ya PC is only as fast as its slowest component ie HDD so getting a SSD should speed it up and put my Q6600 to good use as its still going strong and my GFX seem to be doing the trick. just saving pennies as i had planned on getting a new £600 rig ... but why? i play Starcraft2 most and if i pop that on the SSD should be great! plus the added 2gb of RAM bring it up to 6GB.

thanks

I think you are right, an SSD and a new case seem to be the best option for you.

Case wise, it's pretty tricky. My opinion is one of these two:

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Tech Labs - Silverstone SST-PS07B Precision Midi-Tower Case - Black - Noise Dampened £86.99
1 x Silverstone Sugo SG03F Case - Black (SST-SG03B-F) £64.99
Total : £165.18 (includes shipping : £11.00).

Features wise, i like the PS07, as its very similar to the £80 TJ08-E (which i am kind of in love with).

As for SSD

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128D/EU) £84.98
Total : £93.68 (includes shipping : £7.25).

A steal at that price.

Thanks i will take a better look at the cases this evening.

What are the benefits of the samsung over the OCZ as the write speed is much more on the OCZ - excuss my ignorance!

The latest OCZ / sandforce have a checkered reliability / stability history.

Sequential write speeds are virtually inconsequential for consumer-grade SSDs. You'll be doing mostly reading, and small file transfers.

Their stated write and read speeds are for compressible data.

Samsung 830 would be my choice by a fair margin.
