Simple vertical css menu (expanding when hovered)

im trying to get a simple expanding menu for the departments (DVD, Video), basically all i want is just text, then when someone rolls the mouse over the department another sublist will appear with catagories of films.

Iv tried simple ones from the net but they are full of stuff i dont want, as soon as i try and get rid of the bits i dont want, the menu becomes faulty..

Will i need some javascipt for this to work in IE?

sorry, vertical menu, a very basic one, just text, no text inside divs...thats horizontal ones uv shown me...

Those are vertical - as in, the secondary menus drop down vertically.

tbh something simpler than that! no need for borders, i even would be happy with it to be clickable expantion rather than hover expansion.

I just need the 2nd level menu to be hidden so i got enough room to put more 1st level items on the catalogue menu div on the left
