Simple Web Portal/Page Template

Hi

My sister has now become press officer for our local swimming club. Her first task is to sort out the quite frankly shocking plain HTML website the club has. The site does not need to be complex, just easy to be administered properly. They need to have a website that can publish new items, club information, contact and enquiries information and also display personal best times for the clubs swimmers (currently just downloads a spreadsheet, would be better as a searchable simple database or just displayed on a web page).

Its been a while since I spent my youth fidling with web design. I was thinking something like PHP Nuke would be good. A portal that provides a nice looking site, than can be customised to provide the functionality they need. Allows my sister to update news and other items without having to code the site. I do feel it may be way to complex for what they need though.

Any other suggestions for soemthing for a simple website that can be administered through an admin login and could use some simple databases?

I'd check out Wordpress as well. a lot of free themes you could use and extend, plus 1000s of plugins to add any features you may need.

Looks good, but very talored to blogging. How much flexibility is there?

lots basically

Have a read of the wordpress docs. Whatever you're planning o do with it, its very likely someone else has done it before and made some sort of plugin/mod for that exact purpose

A module to provide Personal Best times for all the clubs swimmers in each of the 3 distances for each of the 4 strokes and individual medley.... Ill eat my foot!
