Hi Peeps,

What is the most quick and easy way to share files (esp Vids) to my xbox. I need something that isn't a whole media centre job, I simply need it to share files, my server (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) doesn't have a GUI so it needs to be configured from the CLI. I have Samba installed for windows clients, but this doesn't seem to be picked up by the xbox. I'm sure there's a quick and easy way to do it! Although most programs seem to be whole media centre type thing!

Thanks !

Well i got uShare, it was much easier than I thought! i Just need to find some media that my 360 will actually play!

sorry to hijack but the xbox 360 for playing media is terrible so difficult to get working just on windows -plus the file types are like rubbish

but for the ps3 on windows it is a breeze with ps3 media server - has anyone mentioned to get linux streaming real true HD content from Linux before?

tversity is stupidly simple even a child could do it, i tyhink theres only a windows version though

UShare is fine for most stuff.

It is not an active project anymore but is great for non HD material. Easy to setup and fairly easy to build (I did so for the DNS-323 NAS box which was my media server for a while). With DNLA enabled it will also stream to the PS3.

Strange how you cannot see your samba shares from the XBox 360 though as I have not had that issue. Windows machines can see the shares without passwords ?
