Simply awesome

Now you're being slightly silly Fox. I don't think any of us that beat the drum for older cars have ever said "OMGZZZZ PAS AND BRAKE SERVOS ARE THE DEVILS WORK". Sure, I quite like driving cars without them, but I can also have fun in cars with them.

It appeared to be the main reason why some people are of the opinion that a 60bhp 1.2 Vauxhall Chevette would be really fun to drive, whereas a 231bhp 3.0 BMW 330Ci would be dull and boring.

Well, that and the fact it suited their anti BMW agenda, obviously.

no one is saying it's a credible alternative. what i'm saying is that given some small, empty, twisty roads i would much rather through a shuv around then a bloated bmw

I wouldnt say the beauty of a 3 or 5 series (unless its an M) was worth making a thread about as I can see 3 from my window. They are great cars but I dont look twice at them. That may change once I own one, but for the time being they are not all that. The same goes for most of Penski's car choices.

It was intended simply as a rebuttal of penki's choices over the last few weeks, it wouldn't have been posted had it not been for them :p

Then you are crazy.

Erm, which 3-series BMW's felt bloated to you?

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that my "anti BMW agenda" has no grounding or basis in logical fact. Very few of the cars that make it onto my wishlist are even remotely sensible (big American stuff, small Fiats, old British cars from a time when quality control was ever-so-slightly suspect).

Fact is though, I did find the supremely competent BMW 330 boring to drive even at speed yet I have to chisel the grin off my face everytime I come in from a cross-country thrash in the Seicento, a car that nearly every reviewer panned compared with it's rivals the Ka and Arosa which are two cars that I never want to have to get into ever again. If anyone can find an ounce of logic in that then I'd be very grateful.

You found it boring probably becuase you detest BMW's and WANTED to it to feel boring - never underestimate the power of the mind. I still dont know how you got yourself into a position were you were insured to drive a car you hated and had no interest in and then able to thrash it across country but never mind.

I was like that with the second Vectra I drove - I genuinelly hated it but how much of that was becuase it was a Vectra and I wanted to hate it I'll never know :p

it is my opinion that they are bloated. you cannot make a comfortable, safe cruiser without adding loads sound proofing, quality materials, electronics etc. all adds extra weight making the car, in my opinion, bloated.

Ok, to the point then. What BMWs have you driven, and what car do you drive?

Never ever "got" BMW's , just look like rep-mobiles to me  . Next door neighbour has a nice shiney M5 , it sounds nice & I like the alloys but doesn't do anything for me at all :o

Ps. I have a Vectra so I feel qualified to talk about rep-mobiles :D

As for pensions, I think the owner of a 1.2l Chevette is more likely to drawing one than the owner of a 530i tbh :p
Does Penski actually own one of these???

If so why the hell would you want one?

Yes, that is indeed the car which is being said to be preferable to 3 litre BMW's in this very thread.

Good innit :p

I actually had a passenger ride in one 10 years ago. I was terrified. I guess it's the type of fun which would appeal to those who enjoy that falling lift ride at Disneyworld.

Yup. It has a 1.2l, *maybe* 1.3l engine.

And maybe one of the 'fun' people could answer your second question, becuase tbh, I'm stumped. :p
