Sims 3 - How do you stop burglers?

Alarms should work from what I know from the previous sims, haven't played sims 3 long enough as it randomly crashes for me every 30 mins so I gave up on that so can't say for sure.

Call the cops as soon as you see a burglar ?
Shame there is no classic yank option ''grab shotgun&shoot burglar''.

You did use a burglar alarm and not the smoke detector..?

Have you tried putting two alarms in the room containing the exterior door? Or tried building a new lot and seeing if the problem follows you there? If these fail then there's definitely something screwy going on.

Strangely enough once I install a burglar alarm in any of my lots I've never seen any more pesky farmer bothering kids. :confused:
 
Alarms = Police come and arrest them.

Build a bridge as mentioned.

Have a brave person in the house, they can go take them on :) iirc
 
I don't mind admitting to it.

I own every Sims game they've released, I find the house building amazingly addictive and fun. Tend to get bored making people / "playing the game" haha although in the Sims 1 I kept a massive house going for the best part of 6/7 months.
