Sims/Sims2 questions

My daughter (8 years old) wants to get the Sims game(s) but im unsure whether to get the original version or the newer one.
It will be running on an XPM2500 runnin at 2.4 with a heavily OCed 9800Pro and 1 gig in duel channel at 1280x1024.
Two questions really.
1 Which is the better game for somebody of this age
2 If Sims2 then how will it run on this system.

Tbh I found the Sims2 really **** compaired to the original one. I'd probably go with the original one because it's much more fun! :)
 
I found the original Sims easier to play. Second one if a bit complex with all those emotions and stuff :p

Good games though!
 
i'd definately get her Sims 1... it may not have all the extra content the Sims 2 or its addon packs have but it is much simpler to play... you only need to match their wants and needs... where as Sims 2 you've got life goals, fears/wants etc...
 
Seems like I'm the only one who found The Sims 2 easier than the first :eek: I found it much easier to keep your Sims in a good mood in the 2nd game, also house building is a lot more fun with the rather nice 3d engine.
Both games will run without a problem on that spec.

well i find Sims 2 easier than the first, but i'm just saying for an 8 year old girl... surely sims 1's (dumbed down) gameplay would be easier... you dont have to watch out for the fears, or work towards the wants.... its just sort of eat/sleep/play etc....

I guess yeah, I must admit I've not played the orignal game in many years now so I'm probably forgetting what it was really like. Also the game is rated as 'Teen' on the official web site so maybe its not really suitable for an 8 year old... especially some of the content Hot Date added :eek:

There is 2 different editions of Sims1 delux as it turns out, one with a 15 rating and one with a 7+ rating.
 
As mentioed above, Sims (2 anyhow) may not be entirely suitable for an 8 year old. I got Sims 2 for my ex's daughter and while no prude, was a little concerned about some areas. But hey, she likes it...
 
Go for the original game with some of the first expansion packs, even just the original "The Sims Deluxe" which has Livin' it up. The later expansion packs add in some things that would probably make the game too complicated, such as going out to town.
As has already been said, Sims 2 will be too much for an 8 year old to understand. Also, it is stripped down in content, so there's not that much to do without expansion packs which still cost a fair bit.
 
Just to hijack the thread a bit, but does anyone know how to make alien babies in sims 2, i'm sure its easy but my gf swears she can't work it out :rolleyes:
 
the sims 2 offers soo much more compared to the original sims and it played fine at 1024x768 on my old 9800Pro flashed to XT so i would get that and the 3 expansions

i think you need to get abducted by aliens for that

You need to get abducted by aliens by looking through the telescope in the middle of the night. Don't think it's a very common occurence, I never saw it happen but a friend did it.

Oi you, get orf my thread :D
So im still no clearer, she has a long attention span (being female) so the game doesnt have to be console oriantated if you get me.

Ok ok i'll give you some post-hijack opinions :p

Personally i think you should go for whichever one is cheaper, then if she doesn't like it then it's not so much of a write off, if she does then you can buy a few expansion packs and see how it goes.

By the look of it sims 2 is the same price as sims 1 deluxe pack, so personally i'd go for 2 as i have a thing about spending £25 on a 4 year old game just to fill EA's coffers.

Sims 2 is a bit more complex but its not exactly a game you can lose at, they die...you create some more :D
