looks like plugins, or empty space for plugins when you install them

I had all the plugins there but since the update they've gone!

Just manually re-adding them now...

Were they ones installed via the Chrome Store or from 3rd party apps? They were meant to be removing the latter automatically to cut down on malware.

Nope, 99% of them, Google Translate & Dictionary etc, were from the store.

Strange.

Icons still on mine everytime I exited Chrome.

Try uninstall Chrome then delete Chrome folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google and also delete Google folder in C:\Users\...\AppData\Local then you can try reinstall Chrome hope it stop lose icons everytime you close Chrome.

Have your content settings change recently?

I changed mine to "let me choose when to run plugin content" as soon as the latest 0-day was discovered.

I ended up getting rid of Chrome completely and then reinstalling. Seem fine so far!

One thing though, multiple tabs. Doesn't seem to like it much when I open all 23 of my daily favourites, all at one time. Firefox never had an issue

I do indeed. Chrome is cack - reinstall with opera post haste.

Odd your Chrome set to continue where you left off in settings on start-up caused 23 tabs opened everytime you opened Chrome. Go to Chrome Settings and change On start-up to open the new tab page if you want google search page with 8 websites you visited frequency or open a specific page or set of pages you can set pages to add URL page as your current page everytime you open Chrome.
